There is no strict uniform for CAT, but test centres follow basic security rules. Wearing simple, comfortable clothes helps you pass the entry check quickly and sit comfortably for two hours.

What to wear

  • Light, comfortable clothes with half sleeves or loosely fitting sleeves
  • Simple, flat footwear such as sandals or slippers
  • A light layer in case the exam hall is cold, if the centre allows it

What to avoid

  • Heavy jewellery, metal accessories, belts with big buckles or smart watches
  • Clothes with many pockets, large buttons or bulky items
  • Caps, scarves or anything covering the face, unless required for religious reasons, in which case reach the centre early for checking
  • Anything electronic, including earphones and fitness bands

Exam day checklist

  • Admit card and original photo ID
  • One passport-size photo
  • Transparent water bottle, if allowed by the centre
  • Reach the centre at the reporting time shown on the admit card

Tip: Follow the instructions printed on your admit card; they overrule any general guideline.
