JEE Main 2027 Registration: Expected Dates, Documents, Fee, Eligibility & How to Apply

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet released the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 notification. The application link will go live on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. Based on the last two cycles, it is likely to open in the last week of October or the first week of November 2026. This is an estimate, not a confirmed date.

The exam schedule is already known. Session 1 will be held on 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027. Some reports also mention 31 January as a reserve date, but NTA has not confirmed it.

This guide covers what you should know before the form opens, so you do not have to figure things out in a hurry once it does.

When will JEE Main 2027 registration begin?

NTA has not confirmed a date, but the pattern from the last two years is consistent.

Exam cycleRegistration openedLast date to applySession 1 began
JEE Main 202528 October 202422 November 202422 January 2025
JEE Main 202631 October 202527 November 202521 January 2026

In both years the form opened in the last days of October and stayed open for about four weeks. The exam started 82 to 86 days after registration opened. If 2027 follows the same pattern, the form should open soon and close in the fourth week of November.

Do not treat this as a fixed schedule. Some earlier cycles, such as 2023, followed different timelines. The only reliable source is the official NTA notification.

Who is eligible?

The final eligibility rules will be in the JEE Main 2027 information bulletin, so read it once it is out. In general, candidates who have passed Class 12 (or an equivalent exam) in the specified years, or are appearing in it, can apply.

A candidate gets a limited number of attempts over three consecutive years. Since JEE Main is held twice a year, this works out to a maximum of six session attempts.

Minimum marks for admission differ by institute. These are separate from the eligibility to sit the exam, so check the criteria of each college you are targeting.

Which paper should you choose?

JEE Main has three papers:

  • Paper 1: B.E. / B.Tech
  • Paper 2A: B.Arch
  • Paper 2B: B.Planning

If you are interested in more than one programme, you can usually apply for a combination of papers, and the fee changes accordingly. Pick the paper for the course you actually plan to join, not the one that feels easiest.

Documents and details to keep ready

Use this waiting period to get your paperwork in order. Most delays and rejections come from document problems, not from the form itself.

  • Class 10 marksheet: your name, parents' names and date of birth in the form must match this document exactly.
  • Class 12 details: board, roll number and year of passing.
  • Photograph and signature: a recent passport-size photograph and a clear signature. NTA publishes the size and format in the bulletin, so check it before you scan.
  • Category or PwD certificate: needed if you apply under OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS or PwD. It must be valid and in the format NTA asks for.
  • Aadhaar details: in the last cycle, NTA asked candidates to update Aadhaar, UDID and category certificate details before applying. Watch for similar instructions this year.
  • Active email and mobile number: NTA sends all updates here, so do not use a relative's number that you cannot access.
  • Payment method: a working debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI account for the fee.

How to fill the JEE Main 2027 application form

  1. Open jeemain.nta.nic.in and click the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 application link.
  2. Complete the registration with your basic details and create your login.
  3. Fill in your parent and address details.
  4. Enter your academic information and select your paper or papers.
  5. Choose your exam city preferences.
  6. Upload your photograph, signature and any certificates in the required format.
  7. Pay the application fee online.
  8. Review every field, submit the form, then download and save the confirmation page.
  9. Keep your application number safe. In the 2026 cycle, candidates used the same application number and login to continue to Session 2.

Application fee

NTA has not announced the JEE Main 2027 fee yet. In past years, the fee depended on three things: the candidate's category, gender and the paper combination selected. It is also different for exam centres in India and abroad. The exact amount will be in the bulletin, so check it there instead of relying on figures from unofficial sites.

Choosing your exam cities

In the 2026 cycle, candidates could select up to four cities in the state of their present or permanent address. Keep two points in mind:

  • Selecting a city does not guarantee you will get it. NTA can allot a different city for administrative reasons.
  • Think about travel time and a place to stay for early-morning shifts. A city that looks close on the map may not be easy to reach on exam day.

Mistakes that cost students their application

  1. Treating form submission and fee payment as one step. In 2026, NTA set separate cut-off times for submitting the form and paying the fee. A form without a confirmed payment is not complete.
  2. Submitting more than one application. Multiple applications for the same session were not allowed. If a payment fails, check its status and keep the transaction reference before you do anything else.
  3. Mismatched name or date of birth. Even a small difference in spelling or initials between your form and your Class 10 certificate can cause problems during verification.
  4. Waiting for the last day. The portal slows down near deadlines, and a failed upload or payment leaves little time to fix it. Apply a week or two before the deadline.
  5. Relying on unofficial links. Apply only through the NTA website. Ignore any site that claims to offer registration before NTA has released the link.
  6. Assuming everything can be corrected later. NTA has offered correction windows in the past, but only some fields could be changed. Check your category, paper selection, academic details and contact details carefully before you submit.

Why you should apply on time and plan ahead

JEE Main scores are used for admission to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes. The exam is also the qualifying round for JEE Advanced. Many state and university counselling processes for engineering colleges use JEE Main ranks too. In Delhi NCR, for example, several colleges admit students through counselling based on JEE Main scores, though the exact process depends on the institute and the year.

Because there are two sessions, a candidate who applies on time and writes the exam in January can still try to improve the score in April. Session 2 registration usually opens in a separate window after Session 1, so do not assume one form covers both.

NTA recorded over 16 lakh registrations for JEE Main 2026 across both sessions. With competition at that level, your preparation should cover the paperwork as well as the syllabus.

For the syllabus, exam pattern and full dates, see the JEE Main 2027 exam page.
