CAT asks for a scanned photograph and signature. A wrong format is one of the most common reasons for a form being sent back, so follow the points below and match them with the size and format shown on the upload screen of iimcat.ac.in.
Photograph guidelines
- Use a recent, clear passport-size colour photo taken in good light.
- Face should be fully visible, looking straight at the camera, with a plain light background.
- No cap, sunglasses or heavy filters. Spectacles are fine if the eyes are visible.
- Use the same photo type that you will carry to the exam centre.
Signature guidelines
- Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper and scan it clearly.
- Sign in the same way as on your ID card, and avoid capital letters only.
- Crop the image closely so that the signature fills the frame.
File format and size
The portal states the accepted file type and the maximum file size on the upload screen. Resize your image before uploading if it is above the limit, and keep the original copy for future use.
Tip: Exact size and format rules can change every year, so follow the instructions shown on the official portal.

Can I upload a selfie as the photograph?+
It is better to use a proper passport-style photo with a plain background. Selfies often fail the quality check.
Can I change my photo after submitting the form?+
Only if the form correction window allows it. Check the Form Correction page.
