Practice questions
Q1.What is the compound interest on INR 8,000 at 10% per annum for 2 years?+
Amount = 8000 x 1.1 x 1.1 = 9,680, so CI = 9,680 - 8,000 = 1,680.
Q2.The average of five numbers is 20. When one number is removed the average of the rest is 18. What is the removed number?+

Q3.A boat goes 15 km downstream at a speed of 15 km/h and returns upstream at 9 km/h. What is the total time taken?+
Downstream time = 1 hour. Upstream time = 15/9 = 5/3 hours. Total = 8/3 hours = 2 h 40 min.
Q4.What is the sum of the first 20 terms of the series 5, 8, 11, ...?+
The sum is n/2 x [2a + (n - 1)d] = 10 x [10 + 57] = 670.
