Chandigarh University (CU), Mohali has started admissions for the 2027-28 session. For most B.E., MBA, pharmacy and law programmes you need to clear CUCET, the university's own online test. Your CUCET score also decides how much scholarship you get, so it pays to take it early. This page puts dates, eligibility, fees, scholarship slabs and contact numbers in one place, with links to the official CU pages so you can check each point yourself.

Chandigarh University Admission Dates 2027

CU runs CUCET in two phases. You pick your own test date inside each phase, so there is no single exam day. The university has not announced the exact 2027 deadlines yet, so the table shows last year's cycle next to what to expect this time.

B.E. Admission at Chandigarh University

CU calls its engineering degree B.E., and it is a four-year programme with branches such as Computer Science, AI and Machine Learning, Data Science, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil and Electrical. CSE and its specialisations fill fastest and ask for higher 10+2 marks.

CUCET is compulsory for B.E. at both the Punjab and Uttar Pradesh campuses. The only exemption in the official FAQ is a score above 90% in 10+2. A JEE Main rank does not replace CUCET in that FAQ, but it does bring a separate scholarship of up to 100%. If you have both, the university gives you the better of the two, not both together.

Can I take admission with a JEE Main score alone? Ask the admission office before you skip CUCET. The rank decides your scholarship slab, while CUCET (or the 90% rule) decides admission eligibility.

MBA Admission at Chandigarh University

CU offers a two-year MBA through its business school, plus specialised MBAs run with industry partners. Some examples are Business Analytics, Banking and Finance, and the industry-collaborated programmes with PwC (Applied Finance) and NSE Academy (Fintech).

  • CUCET is compulsory for MBA and specialised MBA programmes.
  • Graduates with more than 90% marks can skip CUCET.
  • CAT, MAT, CMAT, ATMA and XAT scores bring their own scholarship slabs.
  • The industry-collaborated MBAs have their own CUCET slabs, capped at 40%. CAT, MAT and CMAT scholarships do not apply to them.
  • If you have more than one scholarship option, you get only one, the higher one.

Chandigarh University Admission to UG Courses

Outside engineering, CU runs undergraduate courses in management, computer applications, commerce, design, sciences, arts, pharmacy, law, architecture and hotel management. CUCET is compulsory only for some of them: B.Pharm, Pharm.D and the integrated law courses (BA LLB, BBA LLB, B.Com LLB) at the Punjab campus. For courses like BBA, BCA, B.Com, BA and B.Sc, admission is on 10+2 marks. You can still take CUCET for these courses to get a scholarship. If you wrote CUET UG, a score of 90% or more brought a 50% scholarship in the last cycle (up to 10% of seats).

  • Class 12 marksheet and pass certificate (for UG)
  • Graduation marksheets and degree, or provisional certificate (for PG)
  • Entrance scorecard: CUCET, JEE Main, CAT, MAT, GATE or NATA, whichever applies
  • Aadhaar card
  • Recent passport-size photographs
  • Transfer certificate and character certificate
  • Migration certificate, if your board or university is outside Punjab
  • Category, defence or sports certificate, if you claim a concession

The admission office may ask for more papers for some courses. Carry originals along with two sets of photocopies.

Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) 2027

CUCET serves two purposes: it is the entrance test for courses where it is compulsory, and it is the scholarship test for every course. You take it at home on your own laptop or PC. There is no exam centre and no admit card. Test details reach your registered email.

Since you get two attempts in each phase and the best score counts, many students take a first attempt early to get used to the format, then a second one to push their scholarship slab higher.

Key Facts About CUCET 2027

  • Two phases (CUCET-I and CUCET-II), with two attempts in each phase
  • Your best score across attempts is used for the scholarship
  • Registration fee ₹1,000; each extra attempt ₹500
  • Result within 24 hours
  • Queries about results or technical issues must reach cucet@cumail.in within 48 hours of the test
  • If you lose time because of a technical problem, the lost time is given back

CUCET 2027 Exam Pattern

  • 100 multiple-choice questions
  • 120 minutes
  • No negative marking
  • English medium (10+2 Arts students can take Hindi as a subject)

Eligibility and Exemptions

  • Students in Class 12 or graduation can register before their final results.
  • Above 90% in 10+2 exempts you from CUCET for UG courses where it is compulsory. Above 90% in graduation does the same for PG courses.

If your board results are not out yet, take CUCET anyway. The university advises this so your admission does not get stuck waiting for marks.

Quick prep tip: With 100 questions in 120 minutes and no negative marking, attempt every question. Spend your first attempt learning the pace, then revise weak topics from Class 11 and 12 before the second attempt.

Chandigarh University Scholarship 2027

CU gives merit scholarships through CUCET, 10+2 marks, JEE Main, CUET and MBA entrance scores, plus concessions for defence families, girl students, siblings and sports achievers. You can hold only one scholarship at a time. If you qualify for two, you get the higher one. The full list is on the official scholarship page.

What a slab is worth: Say a course charges ₹1,00,000 per semester in tuition (an example figure, not CU's fee). A 50% scholarship saves ₹50,000 each semester, which is ₹4,00,000 over an 8-semester B.E. A 25% scholarship saves half of that. This is why one extra CUCET attempt to move up a slab is usually worth the ₹500.

Scholarship Based on 10+2 Marks

  • 90% and above: 50% of the semester fee
  • 85% to 89.99%: 20%
  • 80% to 84.99%: 10%

This applies to UG courses. For commerce specialisations the top slab is 40% instead of 50%. Marks are counted across all subjects you appeared in, including additional ones. Seats under this scheme are capped at 10% per course.

JEE Main Scholarship for B.E.

  • AIR up to 25,000: 100%
  • AIR 25,001 to 50,000: 75%
  • AIR 50,001 to 75,000: 50%
  • AIR 75,001 to 1,00,000: 20%
  • AIR 1,00,001 to 1,25,000: 10%

Seats under the JEE scheme are capped at 5% of the intake, so apply early if your rank qualifies.

Scholarship Renewal Conditions

A scholarship is given for the first year and renewed year by year. To keep it, you need:

  • A CGPA of at least 7.5 at the end of each year
  • No E, F or I grade in any subject
  • No disciplinary case
  • A renewal application every year

If your scholarship stops and you later meet the conditions again, you get back only half of the earlier amount for the next year. Factor this in when you plan your fees for all four years.

Conclusion

For most students, the smart move is simple: register for CUCET in Phase 1, use both attempts, and compare your CUCET slab with your JEE Main, CAT or 10+2 slab before you pay the fee. The gap between a 25% and a 50% scholarship adds up to a large amount over four years.

Also plan for the 7.5 CGPA rule from the first semester. Getting the scholarship is one step. Keeping it for the whole course is what lowers your total cost.

Chandigarh University Admission 2027 FAQs

Is CUCET compulsory for admission to Chandigarh University?

Only for some courses. At the Punjab campus it is compulsory for B.E., MBA, MCA, B.Pharm, Pharm.D, M.Pharm, integrated law and LLM. For other courses admission is on merit, and CUCET only decides the scholarship.

Can I get admission to CU without CUCET?

Yes, in two cases. If you scored above 90% in 10+2 (for UG) or in graduation (for PG), you are exempt. And for courses like BA, B.Com, BBA, BCA and B.Sc, CUCET is not needed at all.

I want to join BA at CU. Do I have to give CUCET?

No. BA admission is on 10+2 marks. Taking CUCET is still worth it, because a good score can get you a scholarship on the semester fee.

How many times can I take CUCET?

Four times in all: two attempts in Phase 1 and two in Phase 2. Your best score is used.

What is the CUCET 2027 application fee?

₹1,000 for registration and ₹500 for each extra attempt. The fee is not refunded.

Can a diploma holder take admission in CU?

Yes. Diploma holders in engineering can apply for lateral entry into the second year of B.E. in a related branch. A 3-year diploma also counts for B.Des. Check the branch-wise eligibility with the admission office.

Is there direct admission for MBA at Chandigarh University?

Only if you scored above 90% in graduation. Everyone else has to take CUCET. Your CAT, MAT, CMAT, ATMA or XAT score can still get you a separate scholarship.

Can I get an education loan for Chandigarh University?

Yes. Public and private banks give education loans for recognised universities like CU. You need the admission letter, the fee structure, your marksheets, ID and address proof, and income proof of the co-applicant (usually a parent). Loans up to about ₹7.5 lakh usually do not need collateral under the government's credit guarantee scheme, but each bank sets its own rules.

Does a JEE Main rank help at Chandigarh University?

Yes. A rank up to 1,25,000 gets a B.E. scholarship of 10% to 100%. The official FAQ still lists CUCET as compulsory for B.E., so confirm with the admission office whether your rank alone is enough for admission.
