ABES Cutoff 2027-28: JEE Main Rank, UPTAC and Direct Seats
ABES Engineering College Cutoff 2027-28: The Short Version
"What's the ABES cutoff?" We hear it every week, and the honest answer is a bit annoying: there isn't one. ABES fills 85% of B.Tech seats through counselling on JEE Main rank, and every branch, category, quota and round closes somewhere different. CSE has 900 seats. Mechanical has 60. They don't close anywhere near each other. Then there's the other 15%, which the college fills itself. Your Class 12 marks and JEE score get you shortlisted, and an interview does the rest. So really, ABES has two cutoffs, and they work differently. The only fixed number is eligibility: 45% in the Class 12 PCM group, 40% for reserved categories.

What This Page Will and Won't Tell You
- •No single ABES cutoff rank exists. Branch, category, quota and round all change it.
- •45% in Class 12 lets you apply. That's all it does.
- •The three CSE branches close tighter than ECE, Electrical and Computer, or Mechanical.
- •A 2027-28 closing list can't exist yet. Counselling hasn't run. Use last year's.
- •Direct admission isn't a way around JEE. They shortlist on your JEE score too.
- •We don't predict ranks. Anyone giving you "ABES CSE cutoff 2027: rank X" is guessing.
Eligibility and Closing Rank Aren't the Same Thing
Mix these two up and you'll fill your choices badly. One's a fixed rule. The other moves every single year.
Eligibility: The Fixed Rule
Eligibility is the minimum to be considered at all. For first-year B.Tech, that's Class 12 with Physics, Maths and an allowed third subject, and 45% across those three. 40% if you're in a reserved category. It doesn't care how many people apply. It'll be the same with 500 applicants or 50,000. The bit that trips people up is the third subject, so check which ones are allowed in this year's UPTAC brochure.
Closing Rank: The Number That Moves
The closing rank is the last JEE rank that got a seat in one branch, one category, one quota, one round. It tells you what happened. It doesn't promise anything. If 200 more students put ABES CSE first this year, it gets tighter. If a new college opens down the road, it might loosen. Here's how we'd read it. If your rank would've sat comfortably inside last year's range for your branch and category, your chances are decent. Decent. Not certain.
ABES B.Tech Branch-wise Cutoff 2027-28
Every B.Tech branch costs the same, ₹1,81,200. So in counselling, the only thing separating them is how many people want each one.
Seats by Branch and What They Tell You
| Branch | Seats | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Computer Science and Engineering | 900 | Most wanted, even with the biggest intake. Tightest rank. |
| CSE (AI and ML) | 360 | Very high demand from people who just missed CSE. |
| CSE (Data Science) | 180 | Strong demand and fewer seats, so the rank can jump around. |
| Electronics and Communication | 180 | Moderate. One of the three NBA branches. |
| Electrical and Computer Engineering | 120 | Lower demand. Usually easier. |
| Mechanical Engineering | 60 | Lowest demand, but only 60 seats exist. |
| Total | 1,800 | Half of everything is plain CSE. |
How to Find Your Actual Closing Rank
Go to the UPTAC site and download the B.Tech opening and closing rank PDF for the last completed year. Press Ctrl+F. Type ABES. Now find the row for your branch, your category, your quota (home state or all India) and the round. Note both numbers. Then do it all again for the year before. Two years for your own category beats any rank predictor out there. Screenshot both before choice filling opens. That's when you'll need them, and the site will be slow that week.
The 15% Direct-Admission Route
This route has no published rank at all, which is exactly why people get it wrong. You apply online on the college's site. They shortlist you on your Class 12 marks and your JEE score or rank. You go for an interview. Then they decide. Notice that your JEE score shows up here too. It's a second shot at the same college. Not a shortcut.
| Step | What happens | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Online application | You apply on the college's own portal | Use only the link on abes.ac.in. Never pay an agent |
| Shortlisting | Class 12 marks plus JEE score or rank | Keep your marksheet and JEE scorecard handy |
| Interview | Shortlisted students get called | Be ready to say why this branch, in simple words |
| Offer | Depends on how you did and what's left | Get branch, fee and conditions on paper |
ABES MCA, BCA and M.Tech Cutoff 2027-28
None of these work like B.Tech, and B.Tech ranks won't help you guess them. Each has its own exam and its own bar.
Postgraduate and BCA Eligibility
| Programme | Seats | Eligibility | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| MCA | 180 | BCA, B.Sc. CS or IT, B.Tech CSE or IT, or any degree with Maths in Class 12 or college. 50%, 45% SC/ST | CUET (PG) |
| BCA | 120 | Class 12, as per the BCA notice | CUET (UG) |
| M.Tech CSE | 12 | Relevant bachelor's with 50%, 45% reserved | GATE, then CUET (PG), then college merit |
| M.Tech ECE | 6 | Relevant bachelor's with 50%, 45% reserved | GATE, then CUET (PG), then college merit |
| B.Tech Working Professional (CSE) | 30 | Own rules, needs work experience | As notified |
| B.Tech Working Professional (ECE) | 30 | Own rules, needs work experience | As notified |
Why the M.Tech Numbers Matter
Look again. 12 seats in M.Tech CSE. 6 in ECE. Eighteen in the whole college. One round can fill that, and GATE holders are ahead of you in line. So if M.Tech at ABES is the plan, find out early when applications open and which route your branch is taking this year. Don't sit and wait for a notice to pop up.
ABES B.Tech Lateral Entry Cutoff 2027-28
Lateral entry puts diploma holders, and some B.Sc. graduates, straight into second year. Separate counselling. Separate rules. First-year JEE ranks mean nothing here.
Who Can Apply for Lateral Entry
| Route | Eligibility | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Three-year engineering diploma | 45%, or 40% for SC and ST | First in line |
| Qualifying two-year lateral-entry diploma | 45%, or 40% for SC and ST | First in line |
| B.Sc. degree | 45%, or 40% SC/ST, with Maths in Class 12 | Only after diploma holders, if seats are left |
What the Lateral Entry Process Looks Like
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Exam | CUET (UG) is listed. Check the final route in the notice |
| Counselling | Separate lateral-entry rounds, not the first-year ones |
| Excluded diplomas | Some diploma fields are excluded. Read the notice |
| Branch | Depends on what's vacant after first-year rounds |
| Entry point | Second year, so three years in total |
| Check | That your diploma branch is accepted for the B.Tech branch you want |
What Actually Decides Whether You Get In
Six things. You control some of them.
The Six Factors
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| JEE Main rank | The biggest one by far on the counselling route |
| Branch demand | The three CSE branches pull the most people |
| Category and quota | Reserved and home-state ranks differ from the open list |
| Round | Later and vacancy rounds can close very differently |
| Subject combination | Wrong third subject and you're out, whatever your marks |
| Choice order | A badly ordered list can cost you a branch you could've had |
How to Fill Your UPTAC Choices for ABES
Put the branch you really want first. Then the next one. Then the next. Order them by what you'd actually be happy joining. Don't drop a branch because you think your rank won't reach it. UPTAC gives you the best one available at your rank, so aiming high costs you nothing. If CSE is your top pick, put AI-ML and Data Science right behind it, since the subjects overlap a lot and software companies hire from all three. ECE next, if electronics interests you at all. It has NBA. Then the safer ones. Before you lock it, check last year's ranks and make sure at least two of your lower choices are easily within reach.
Does a Good Rank Get You a Discount Too?
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Rank-based tuition waiver? | Not that we could find on ABES's pages |
| What does exist? | UP and central government scholarships, applied for separately |
| For postgrads? | GATE-linked AICTE and MHRD scheme, plus a ₹7,000 and ₹8,000 stipend for some non-GATE direct students |
| What to do | Don't knock an imaginary scholarship off the fee. Wait for it in writing |
Cutoff Myths We Hear Every Year
Five of them. Here's what's true.
Myth and Fact
| Myth | Fact |
|---|---|
| ABES has one cutoff | Every branch, category, quota and round has its own |
| 45% means I'm in | 45% means you can apply |
| Last year's rank will repeat | It moves with demand. Use it as a guide, nothing more |
| Direct admission is guaranteed | Up to 15% of seats, shortlist, interview. Not guaranteed |
| Rank predictor sites are official | Only UPTAC's own PDF counts |
From JEE Main to Reporting at ABES
Six steps, in order. Miss a deadline and you're usually waiting for the next round.
The Six Steps
- •Check you meet eligibility and the subject rule in the latest UPTAC brochure.
- •Write JEE Main. That's the basis for 85% of the seats.
- •Register on UPTAC the moment it opens and upload your documents.
- •Fill ABES branches in the order you'd honestly join them. Compare with old closing ranks.
- •Freeze or float before the deadline. Pay the seat fee through the official channel.
- •Report on the date in your letter, with originals and the right number of photocopies.
Running the Direct Route Alongside
| Stage | Counselling | Direct |
|---|---|---|
| Where | UPTAC portal | College's own online form |
| What decides it | JEE rank and your choices | Class 12 marks, JEE score, interview |
| Share of seats | 85% | Up to 15% |
| Branch | By rank and preference | Whatever's available at offer time |
| Published rank? | Yes, in UPTAC PDFs | No |
| Get in writing | Allotment letter and receipt | Branch, fee and conditions, before paying |
Who Actually Sets the ABES Cutoff
For most seats, not the college. Knowing who decides what saves you a lot of pointless phone calls.
Who Controls Which Part
| Body | What it controls |
|---|---|
| NTA | Runs JEE Main and gives your rank |
| UPTAC | State counselling, seat matrix, round dates and closing ranks |
| AICTE | Approves courses, sets eligibility and intake |
| ABES | Its own direct admission, up to 15%, and the fee |
Does Autonomy Change the Cutoff?
No. ABES has been autonomous since 2025, but that affects what happens after you join: syllabus, exams, rules. Getting in still runs through state counselling on JEE rank for 85% of seats. The better question for 2027-28 is which academic rules govern your batch. Attendance, backlogs, grading. Ask for them at reporting and read them that week.
What to Carry When You Report to ABES
Get this together before your allotment shows up. Reporting windows can be a few days long.
Reporting Checklist
- •Class 10 marksheet and pass certificate, plus however many self-attested copies the notice asks for.
- •Class 12 marksheet and pass certificate.
- •JEE Main scorecard, UPTAC allotment letter and seat fee receipt.
- •Diploma or B.Sc. marksheets and certificates, for lateral entry.
- •Graduation marksheets and degree or provisional certificate, for MCA or M.Tech.
- •Category, domicile or income certificate, if you're claiming a reserved seat or want a scholarship.
- •Character certificate, plus transfer or migration certificate if your board needs one.
- •Photo ID, passport photos and proof of fee payment.
Two Rules About Your Originals
One: never hand originals to an agent or consultant, and never courier them unless the college asks in writing. Two: keep a full photocopy set with you through first semester. Scholarship forms, the hostel office and your bank will all want copies at short notice. And if the college keeps any original, get a receipt that names the document and the date. Two minutes now, weeks saved later.
What the Seat Gets You: ABES Placements
Getting in is step one. Here's what the college's own pages say happens at the end.
Published Placement Figures
| Measure | Figure | Our reading |
|---|---|---|
| Companies | 489 on the placement page; 500+ on homepage | Two pages, two dates |
| Placements | 1,289 | Students or offers? Not clear |
| Offers | 1,870 | Higher because some students got several |
| Placement rate | 80.06% | Ask what it's a percentage of |
| Median salary | ₹4.50 LPA | The most honest number here |
| Highest | ₹45 LPA, 2025-26 | One student |
| Offer bands | 444 at ₹5-7 LPA, 270 at ₹7-9 LPA, 89 at ₹10 LPA+ | The real spread |
Ask for Your Branch, Not the College
The college average hides a lot, and ABES's own department pages show it. ECE in 2025: 88 placed, 121 offers, 101 companies, 66.67%, top offer ₹7.65 LPA. MCA: 140 placed, 182 offers, 113 companies, 77.78%, top ₹12.93 LPA. Both are well under the ₹45 LPA on the banner. Both are real. Before you take the seat, ask your department for its last two batches: eligible, placed, median, roles. If they won't share, that tells you something too.
Frequently Asked Questions — ABES
There's no single cutoff. Each branch, category, quota and round closes at its own JEE rank. Check UPTAC's closing-rank PDF.
It changes yearly. Find the ABES CSE row for your category in UPTAC's document, ideally for two years.
45% in the Class 12 PCM group, 40% for reserved categories.
For counselling, yes. Even direct admission uses your JEE score to shortlist.
On the UPTAC website, in the B.Tech opening and closing rank PDF.
It can't be. Counselling hasn't happened. Use last year's and watch UPTAC as rounds finish.
No. Rank, choices, category and seats decide it.
Online form, shortlist on Class 12 marks and JEE score, interview, then a decision.
Different, not easier. Fewer seats, JEE still counts, and there's an interview.
Usually Mechanical or Electrical and Computer. Mechanical only has 60 seats though, so check the actual rank.
Yes, almost every year. 900 seats and it still closes tighter than ECE's 180.
To apply: 50% in a degree with Maths, 45% SC/ST. For ranks, see the CUET (PG) and UPTAC PG documents.
50% in a relevant degree, 45% reserved. With 18 seats in total, check early which route your branch is using.
No. Lateral entry has its own counselling and lists.
We didn't find a merit discount on ABES's pages. Government schemes are the main help.
