Lloyd Institute of Forensic Science Facilities & Infrastructure

Here you practise documenting a scene, collecting and packing evidence, and keeping the chain of custody unbroken. Which simulations and equipment will your batch actually get to use? Ask.

This lab is for studying biological evidence and serological methods under supervision. It's the groundwork for DNA and body-fluid analysis. Check which instruments and what practical schedule your course comes with.

Handwriting and signature comparison, spotting alterations, checking document features: that's the kind of questioned-document work done here. For the Forensic Document Examination diploma, it's the core facility.

Project work and supervised practical research happen in the two research labs. Find out about booking, access hours, consumables and the safety induction.

There's a central library on campus. Ask what it stocks in forensic science journals, e-books and research databases, how many books you can borrow, and when it's open in term time and during exams.

Lectures, presentations, workshops, seminars and expert sessions all run at LIFS. Ask about the classrooms and the event calendar for your batch.

Boys and girls have separate hostels, says the LIFS brochure. They're air-conditioned, with satellite TV and Wi-Fi, and meals and laundry are included. What the brochure doesn't give is room rates, sharing options or deposits, so ask for a written hostel offer for your session.

Hostel stays include meals, according to the brochure. If you're a day scholar, ask whether you can eat on campus. Also ask what the meal plan covers and whether special diets are handled.

Brochure and gallery material show a gym and a basketball court, along with student events. Which ones are open right now, and at what timings? Check.

Lab work begins with a safety induction. Rules cover protective equipment, sample handling, waste disposal and confidentiality. Ask whether lab coats, gloves and eye protection are supplied, who to call in an emergency, and what first-aid and grievance arrangements exist.
