Lloyd Institute of Forensic Science (LIFS) sits in Knowledge Park II, Greater Noida. It is affiliated to the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The institute began its forensic science courses in 2022 and now runs four programmes: a five-year integrated B.Sc. + M.Sc. Forensic Science, a two-year M.Sc. Forensic Science, and professional diplomas in Fingerprint Science and Forensic Document Examination. The M.Sc. costs ₹50,000 a semester and each diploma ₹20,000 a semester, with university charges on top.

About LIFS

At LIFS, forensic science is taught together with applied science, technology and law. The institute also trains people who already work in the criminal-justice system, both in India and abroad. It belongs to the Lloyd Group, which has separate colleges for engineering, law, management and pharmacy. LIFS isn't one of those colleges, though. It's a standalone institute with its own affiliation.

Integrated B.Sc. + M.Sc. Forensic Science

This is a five-year course you can join right after Class 12 Science. Subjects include forensic biology, toxicology, ballistics, forensic chemistry, DNA analysis, fingerprint analysis and digital forensics, plus the ethical and legal side of forensic work.

M.Sc. Forensic Science

The M.Sc. runs two years and teaches you how to collect, handle and analyse evidence. The syllabus takes in fingerprints, questioned documents, ballistics, speaker recognition, video authentication, analytical chemistry, toxicology, serology and DNA analysis.

The Two Diplomas

The Fingerprint Science diploma deals with identifying and classifying fingerprints and using them in investigations. The Forensic Document Examination diploma looks at handwriting, signatures, alterations, inks, papers and indented writing, which is the work behind forgery, fraud and legal disputes.

What the Courses Include

  • •Practical sessions in the lab and applied learning.
  • •Internships at forensic labs, depending on availability and selection.
  • •Projects, seminars and workshops.
  • •Training and placement support.
  • •Preparation for UGC-NET, FACT and FACT Plus.

FAQs — LIFS Courses 2026-27

Forensic science comes down to evidence. You find it, keep it safe, test it, and then explain what it shows in a way a court can rely on. These are the areas LIFS courses cover.

Learning Areas

AreaWhat You Learn
Forensic biology and DNABiological evidence, sample handling, lab analysis and interpretation
Forensic chemistry and toxicologyChemical examination, toxic substances and analytical methods
Fingerprint scienceDeveloping, comparing, classifying and identifying fingerprints
Questioned documentsHandwriting and signatures, document authenticity, spotting alterations
Ballistics and physical evidenceExamining physical evidence with scientific methods
Digital and multimedia evidenceDigital material, video and audio evidence where in the syllabus
Crime scene and evidence procedureDocumentation, collection, preservation, chain of custody and reporting

Why Practical Training Matters

A careless sample or a missing note can sink a case, and that's why forensic work depends on careful handling of evidence. Procedures have to be repeatable by others. Interpretation has to be fair, the notes detailed and the reports clear. Pick a course where you practise all of this under supervision, and where you also learn the legal and ethical duties that come with handling evidence.

LIFS's FAQ lists ₹50,000 a semester for M.Sc. Forensic Science and ₹20,000 a semester for each professional diploma, with other university charges added. Across four semesters, M.Sc. tuition comes to ₹2,00,000. Separately, the admission payment is ₹1,500 and university or exam charges are listed at ₹2,000. No fee is published for the integrated programme.

FAQs — LIFS Admission 2026-27

LIFS doesn't publish closing marks or ranks. NFSU's 2026-27 sheet sets the minimums at 55% (50% for SC/ST/PwD) for the integrated course and the M.Sc., and 50% for the diplomas. The LIFS page itself asks for 60% for the integrated course. For the integrated programme, CUET papers include Biology (304), Chemistry (306), Physics (322) or Mathematics (319).

What Decides Your Seat

Seats are few: 30 in the integrated course and 36 in the M.Sc. Competition can be real. Your CUET score and category count, and so does whether your subjects match the eligibility wording exactly, along with how many others apply. For the diplomas, your degree marks decide your merit rank.

FAQs — LIFS Cutoff 2026

LIFS has a dedicated Training and Placements Cell. It advertises 100% placement assistance and internships in Central and State Forensic Science Laboratories. Package figures and a placement rate aren't published, so ask for batch-wise data.

How to Get Career-Ready

Forensic jobs, particularly in government labs, often need a specific degree, some experience or a recruitment exam. Start with strong basics in biology, chemistry, physics, statistics or computing, depending on your specialisation. Practise writing lab notes and scientific reports, and protect evidence integrity. Learn to state findings plainly and without bias. Take supervised internships and keep a record of what you did. Follow official recruitment notices closely and check the degree, age, experience and exam rules for each post.

FAQs — LIFS Placements and Careers

LIFS has no published numerical ranking. Its main credential is the NFSU affiliation. NFSU itself is an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, but that status belongs to NFSU and doesn't count as a rank for LIFS.

LIFS doesn't publish a scholarship table with amounts. Talk to the admissions office about institute merit awards, fee concessions, NFSU schemes, and government scholarships based on category, income, domicile or disability. Scholarships at other Lloyd colleges don't carry over to LIFS automatically.

LIFS materials name a Crime Scene Investigation Lab, a Forensic Biology and Serology Lab, a Document Examination facility, Research Labs 1 and 2, and a central library. According to the brochure, there are also separate AC hostels for boys and girls with Wi-Fi, satellite TV, meals and laundry, along with a gym and basketball court.

Campus Life and Commute

LIFS posts updates about orientations, expert sessions, workshops, lab visits and student events. Commuters should check transport and last-mile options to Knowledge Park II against their actual class timings. Anyone who needs a hostel should get current room and mess charges in writing.

Questions to Ask About Labs

  • •Which labs can students of my programme use?
  • •Which instruments and practicals are covered each semester?
  • •Are internships guaranteed, competitive or self-arranged?
  • •Which forensic labs have hosted recent students?
  • •What safety procedures and protective equipment are provided?
